Resident Evil 5 Explosion

Posted by ApsuWurkz - June 23rd, 2008

Unfortunately I've been a couple of days late to the party, but RE5 news has exploded across the net from Capcom's Captivate event. Footage hit the web over the weekend thanks to GameTrailers and since then the embargo has lifted providing countless screens, video interviews, and new official sites.

The official site is interesting, aside from providing videos and the usual images, for some unknown reasons Capcom has added wallpapers which have development notes all over them. They've indicated this is intentional, but it does also potentially reveal the new female characters name as well as the existence of another character.

Here's a quick run down on how to get all of the info out there:

GameTrailers Official Trailer via GTTV
GameTrailers Pop Up Trivia Edition
GameTrailers Producer Interview

Kotaku - Producer Re: Racist Criticism

A number of these are worth checking out, especially the trailer of course and the pop up trivia edition as well at GameTrailers. The two video interviews are worth watching too... GameTrailer's is better produced and better overall questions are asked, however the GameSpot edition probes a little into the links between this and previous titles in the series and you get some interesting answers.

Additionally while preview wise all the content is descriptions of the same playable displayed to the press, it's worth reading Kotaku's discussions with producer Jun Takeuchi about the critical comments about racism portrayed in the earlier trailer and their impact as well.

Most importantly Takeuchi has also stressed in most of the interviews that new stuff will be coming to E3 (in just over a month), including a surprising new addition which they haven't yet discussed, and a further character which apparently will surprise people.

Finally, if this isn't enough or you can't be bothered scouring all the sites for all the details, our friends at The Horror Is Alive have posted a general summary of all the important details on their news page from all the sites giving an overall view of this event. Cheers to DotCal for doing this so I might cheekily link to it.
